Lauva un vienradzis /// The lion and the unicorn

When it gets a little sad, when there is lack of enthusiasm and no way for you to be carried by away by endless beauty all around, when wild animals don't pass by, and when there is no Scotland, I put on my British rings - a unicorn and a crown - and drink coffee. Unicorn stands for Scotland, and crown, well, that's royal. Then it gets a wee bit better. I'd like to own a lion in some way, lion stands for England. A long time ago there were two lions as the heraldic supporters on the Royal Arms of England, and two unicorns on the Scotland's. When James IV of Scotland became also James I of England, the lands were emerged and the coats of arms as well. Now one lion and one unicorn appear on the Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom. And there is a nursery rhyme about it.

The lion and the unicorn
Were fighting for the crown
The lion beat the unicorn
All around the town.

Some gave them white bread
And some gave them brown;
Some gave them plum cake
And drummed them out of town.

In order to have something 'lion-like' here too, and I wanted to post a picture of friend's birthday cake which
was in the shape of a lion, looked exactly like one, but he had troubles with technique, so no cake-lion here.

P.S. Šovakar notika kaut kas ļoti jauks. Es saņēmu pa pastu atsūtītu čeku par sterliņu mārciņām no Skotijas! Naudu vienmēr forši saņemt, nekad agrāk neesmu saņēmusi čekus, un lietiņa no Skotijas, vī!

P.S. This evening something really nice happened. I received a cheque for British pounds sent by post from Scotland! It always feels good to get money, I have never received any cheques before, and this is something from Scotland!
